Onion Days

Every Labor Day, my good ‘ol hometown of Payson celebrates Onion Days (yeah, it’s kind of a silly name, but we grow great onions!). I have fond memories of going to the parade and carnival as a kid, so naturally I had to take the boys.

First we tried out the slip ‘n’ slide that Grandpa Nelson gave Deacon (it was a hit!)

Then we headed to Spanish Fork for Aunt Gwen’s amazing cooking, and some trampoline jumping

We spent the night at my dad’s, and woke up to this (proof indeed that pigs can fly)

IMG_4252

We waited patiently for the parade to start

Aunt Karel helps Evan avoid the ear-splitting sound of the fire engine horn

IMG_4255

Deacon actually sat still for the whole parade!

IMG_4258

And this is just cute :)

The famous Payson marching band

IMG_4260

And the famous Smoky Bear (I was politely informed by Maria that it’s “Smokey Bear” and not Smokey “the” Bear. Who knew?)

Got snubbed by Jason Chaffetz

IMG_4268

And the best part….a Delorean!!

IMG_4274

Deacon practiced his cup stacking skills at lunch, and reminded us how good he is at it by saying ta-da every time he stacked them

IMG_4276

And finally the carnival rides!! Deacon absolutely loved all the rides and had a melt down when they stopped. A couple of the carnys even gave him free rides!

Ignore my insane giggling, but I think I was having more fun than Deacon!

Good ol’ carnys, always there to lend a helping hand

Apologies for the long post, but it was an awesome day!

The Big 10

Terry and I celebrated 10 years of marriage on August 25th!! I can’t believe we’ve been married that long!

10 years later…

We had dinner at The Roof, which is where Terry took me before he proposed. We had the neatest experience! The day we were married, Elder Dallin H. Oaks was also married the same day and in our room. It was taking so long they had to move our family to a different room in the temple. He passed us in the hall after his ceremony, and we thought it was so neat to see him! Fast forward 10 years, and who do we see at the restaurant? Elder Oaks!! He was there with his wife celebrating their anniversary. We told him the story, and he was so thrilled! I thought it was the coolest thing :)

This is where Terry proposed! Just behind the tabernacle

Terry, simply put, you’re the best. In 10 years we accomplished all our goals that we set out to do. I made it through hygiene school, and you made it through pharmacy school. You are the hardest worker I have ever met. I am able to stay home with our boys because you work so hard for us. Our boys have such a wonderful father! I love you so much. I hope the next 10 years are as good as the last 10 have been!

5 months old!

Evan turned 5 months old on the 9th! Here’s what we’ve been up to:

Bear chair picture

IMG_4171

Lots of hugs from brother

IMG_4118

Lots of sleeping in the bouncer

IMG_4066

Lots of hugs and playtime with cousins

IMG_4151 IMG_4144

We visited Wheeler Historic Farm, but it was a HUGE disappointment. Of course we picked the hottest and most humid day to go, but it was a snoozer of a place. Not much to do but walk around in dirt and smell pig poop, but Deacon still looked cute by this wagon.

IMG_4123

Evan was loving being out of the car seat

IMG_4126 IMG_4134

We rewarded Deacon with ice cream for being such a trooper

IMG_4135

Evan has found his voice and is squawking like a bird all the time!

I also looked up the meaning of Evan’s name (yeah, I didn’t know it before I picked the name; I’m a bad mom!) I was surprised to learn that it means “God is gracious”. I think that is so fitting considering what happened while I was pregnant with him. Heavenly Father HAS been gracious with him. He is healthy and happy and we couldn’t be happier to have him in our family. We love you, little bunny!

So blessed

Our 4th of July weekend was jam packed with activities! My brother got married (okay, it was in June, but close enough).

How cute are they?

IMG_3916

Then we had the annual Rees family pool party. Luckily Deacon still loves the pool (he managed to jump in while I wasn’t looking – SCARY!) IMG_3962

Working on my tan is sooooo hard…

IMG_3971

Our new nephew Nixon! He’s 6 weeks younger than E but almost bigger than him!

IMG_3978

Then we blessed Evan.  He wore the same suit as Deacon (precious!).  We also continued our tradition of NOT getting a family picture on blessing day!

Grandpa Ross & Great-Grandpa Carl

How yummy is this kid?

IMG_4012

Deacon isn’t sure what Addie thinks is so funny…..

…and Evan did his best Al Bundy pose

IMG_4024

Of course we had to light some fireworks, Rees style (in the middle of the road blocking traffic)

IMG_4033

Before…

IMG_4037

After!

Poor kid takes after his momma – we hate loud noises!  I still remember freaking out at fireworks when I was little

IMG_4041

Hugs from dad made it all better

IMG_4044

Last but not least…

Deacon’s new favorite thing is to “sleep” in my bed when E is in there.  How can I say no that cutie?

IMG_3881

Do they get more adorable than this?!
